I have a puzzle. It has been passed down that my GrGrGrandfather served under Gen. Sterling Price. His name was Benjamin Beaty from Henry County MO. He served with his brother, Lewis P, or L P, Beaty. It has been passed down that he was a captain, and because of this, was able to keep his sidearms after the war. My family has his sidearm. I have searched and been able to find record of him being in company F, along with his brother, of the MSG. I found an obituary of a man named Childers, from Henry co MO, and it is listed on the Henry co. site. The obit references Capt Beaty's company. I cannot find any record of a captain Beaty serving in the MO state guard. Yet the obit references Capt Beaty, as if anyone reading it in the area would know who they were talking about. Would anyone have any idea how I might solve this puzzle? Could he have been a captain, yet when the MSG was assimilated in the confederate army he was listed as a private? or vice versa.. He fought in the battle at Pea Ridge ARK. HELP!
