I do not believe that Capt. Anderson ever wore a regulation uniform. Extant photos of Anderson have him dressed in civilian attire. This was usually the dress for Missouri Partisan Rangers. There are images of William C. Quantrill where he affects a pose in uniform in an attempt at legitimacy. However neither of these men ever held official rank bestowed by the Confederate Army. An ancestor of mine rode with Anderson. Photos of my ancestor show him armed but not in a military uniform. He is however wearing an embroidered hunting shirt. The closest thing the guerillas had to a uniform was usually this colorful battle shirt.
