Stephen, my great-grandfather was in company C of the 6th MSM. I have written a history of the regiment with the company rosters. I have in my collection of documents on the regiment & a series of pictures of men who served in that regiment. One shows them in the typical shell jacket, a heavy sabre of the 1851 version I believe and the Austrian carbine plus a Colts dragoon pistol. The regiment went through several different armaments transitions while it was in southwest Missourui. The companies from the 3rd MSM (Old organization) that were reassigned to the 6th MSM in February 1863 were armed much better than the other companies.
Who were your ancestors and what company were they in. I would like to add in information I can to the roster information such as burial location. Do you have any letters or diary entries from these ancestors?
