Re: Train Unit in the Civil War

I am so sorry it has taken so long to answer to this. It really is important to me. When I got your response, I didn't think it was an answer and forgot about it until I started to look thru old mail.
This is what 1890 special schedule of surviving solders census. John Wood is number 7 on the list:
John Wood, Margareth E.Wood widow of John Wood.
Rank: Train
Company: empty
Name of Regiment or Vessel: Mo.
Date of enlistment: Fall 1862
Date of discharge: April 1865
Length of service: 3 yrs and 6 months
Post Office Address: Neosho, Mo
Disability incurred: froze hands and feet in the service
Remarks: Can not give further information

Any info you could give me would be most helpful and appreciated. My grandfather, John" son was a deaf mute and I never got any family info from him. I just don't know anything about what a train was at that time.

Thanks in advance
Phyllis Hammick
