Price's Missouri Expedition of 1864

Sometimes called a raid or an invasion.

I'm requesting reasonable speculation on these questions --

Did General Price and his lieutenants have a real opportunity to win a significant military victory and remain in the state, or was the expedition doomed from the beginning?
Were Federal resources and leadership so far superior that the Confederates never had a real chance in Missouri?
Given the limited resources available to Southern commanders at this time, what might they have accomplished in this area?

I'm aware of a number of histories of the Missouri Expedition and its demise. Has anyone explored the questions I posed above?
