As a friend of Mr. Porter's, I can vouch for the work that he put into this article. It is quite an outstanding account of the unpleasantries in Platte County. He's researched the action there quite thoroughly, and has compiled more facts and figures about this fight, than has been accurately known in quite some years, perhaps since those involved had passed away. A strongly suggested read for those interested in the guerrilla war fought along the MO/KS border.
Additionally,I have recently acquired a copy of the New York Times dated July 28th, 1864, which, believe it or not, goes into great detail of the route taken by 'Coon' Thornton and the guerrillas which ended up at the fight at Camden Point. (as if anyone in New York had ever heard of Camden Point!
