Re: John Kent and the Battle at Kirksville

Craig:

Thank you so much for the information regarding the CSA John Kent! I am new to civil war researching, so please forgive my lack of knowledge in this area.

I don't know if this solves the mystery or enlarges it:

A possible for the Schuyler County John Kent:
Year: 1860; Census Place: Prairie, Schuyler, Missouri; Roll: M653_646; Page: 0; Image: 111.
Household Members: Name Age
John Kent 40 b. Ohio
Catherine Kent 40
Daniel Kent 16
Timothy Kent 11
Rebeca Kent 6
Joseph Kent 3
Barbara Kent 3

Here's "my" John Kent:

Year: 1860; Census Place: Benton, Adair, Missouri; Roll: M653_605; Page: 0; Image: 25.
Household Members: Name Age
John Kent 43 b. Ohio
Amanda Kent 42
James T Kent 15
Geo F Kent 11
Ellmoore Kent 9
Silas Kent 6
Martha J Kent 3

I do realize that men did not always enlist in their own county or state. Both John Kents were born in Ohio around the same time...I will try to check and see if they are possbily related, which may account for the possibility of my John Kent enlisting in Schuyler Co.
But, if CSA John Kent is the one from Schuyler, how would Mrs. Miller have known him all of her life, so to speak?
(Otis and Nancy Miller lived at Salt River, Adair Co. in the 1860 census.)

I just found something that may have ruled the 1860 Schuyler Co man out-Catherine Kent from Schuyler Co is listed on the 1890 census as the widow of Pvt. John Kent, Company B Reg. 22 Mo with service from Oct 9, 1862 to March 1, 1863. His is listed as 'died in the service.' Could the dates of service be wrong? If not, then this cannot be CSA John Kent.

Is this the record for the CSA John Kent?
Name: John Kent
Side: Confederate
Regiment State/Origin: Missouri
Regiment Name: 1 Northeast Missouri Cavalry
Regiment Name Expanded: 1st Northeast Regiment, Missouri Cavalry
Company: K
Rank In: Corporal
Rank In Expanded: Corporal
Rank Out: Corporal
Rank Out Expanded: Corporal
Film Number: M380 roll 8

How would I order the confederate records? I will be more than happy to send you a copy of any records I obtain.
Again, thank you for your response!

Laura
