Hi; like your stuff on the Kansas board.

Seems that J.V Harbort per his Missouri Death Certificate died as a resident of the Nevade State Hospital on Dec. 25 1923 of Broncho-pneumonia. His father unamed is listed as being from Germany and his mother's maiden name is unknown. His wife Gertrude of Omaha Nebraska is listed as the informant. His place of birth is listed as Charleston S.C. on Jan 23, 1839.

I am only speculating here but the Missouri state hospital system acted as a "nursing home" of sorts for a number of Confederate Veterens and I can't put my finger on it right now but I've read that the Higginsville Confederate Veterens home transfered some of their folks to the state hospital system late in its existence. Interestingly these vets were often refered to as inmates on the census roles as presumablly they were there at court order due to senility, mental illness, or just being poor with no resources or family to care for them.

His 1920 Census listing in Missouri is as follows: (If you look at the original image the California transcription is in error the image lists just Carolina)

In the 1900 Census he is in Iowa married to a Fredona with children in the household as well as a cousin

1890 Census is unavailable but he is listed in 1895 in Iowa with wife Fredona in Des Moines.

So it appears he lost a wife Fredona, remarried between 1900 and 1910 and moved to Kansas and then on to Vernon County MO between 1910 and 1920.

His father's name per 1850 census was Frederic born 1811 Germany and his mother was listed as Eliza b. 1817 New York. He was the oldest on that listing with siblings Sophia 1842, Frederic W. 1844, Lanora 1847, and a mulatto Ann Tucker, 1846.

FWIW :>)
