Re: William F. Reynolds
In Response To: William F. Reynolds ()

The only possible candidate I find is William Reynolds, 42nd MS Infantry. I'm not at all confident that he's your man. I only cite his as a remote possibility since there was one company in the 42nd that was from DeSoto County, MS. All of the other William Reynolds's were in companies formed well away from DeSoto County. The problem with this William Reynolds is that his company is not given, so he could be from any one of several counties that sent companies to form the 42nd MS. The only thing I can think of for you to try is to order his service record (which will probably be very scant) from Webmaster Jim Martin at the tab at the top of this page. Though scant, his record might give you some useable info, such as "discharged due to overage," etc. I figure that, since his company is not given, he probably wasn't in the regiment long, though this is just a guess. His being listed in the regiment might also simply be a clerical error. You never know until you see the actual records. He might also have died very shortly after entering service, and, thus, not have been assigned to a company, though this would be a rare circumstance. I am sure that there are other reasons he would not have been listed as being in a particular company.

I don't find him in MS CS Grave Registrations.

I don't find him in MS CS Pension Applications, either.

Hope this helps! -- Jim Huffman, Gainesville Vols
