Re: Pound's Battalion at Chickamauga - Jim Huffman

Gentlemen -

FWIW Merriman Pound was my GGGF and thanks to Jim Huffman and John Thompson I know more about him now than ever I thought possible, but I know nothing of his work at Chickamauga. For that matter, I haven't found accounts of any of the engagements of his B Company 1st, or H 43rd. Any help would be deply appreciated.

Thanks to John, the gravesite and headstone have been located and are near Mooreville - along with more of the family as well. The old family cemetery is in the woods and in a badly overgrown state but it is largely intact. Ironically, his father is buried in the same cemetery as my maternal grandparents and that cemetary is within a mile of mothers homeplace in Verona. No one in the last three generations knew that for some inexplicable reason.

My many thanks to anyone providing any assistance in re the battle histories.

As an afterthought for anyone interested, his grandson, William Robert Hunt, son of Jessie Ivy Hunt (4th corporal - H Company 43rd) and Sarah Pound (a/k/a "Pond"), was a Doctor practicing in Lee & Itawamba Counties in the 1930's. Uncle Will delivered Elvis.
