I have learned that after the battery was formed in Hazelhurst, MS it was sent to the Mississippi Gulf Coast as part of the 3rd Mississippi. It remained there are part of coastal defense until just before the fall of New Orleans, where it fell back and was reorganized with the other units in Mississippi and Louisiana at Camp Moore in April and May of 1862. It was then ordered to Port Hudson as part of its defense. After the fall of Port Hudson, it was surrendered and exchanged in July, 1863.

My g-grandfather, Thomas L. Mullican served in the Seven Stars Artillery. I think he was a cannoneer, but have no way to prove it. Like I said, after the surrender and exchange, nothing is heard of him until Feb, 1864, where he joins the 1st Mississippi Mounted Rifles (a yankee unit organized in northern Mississippi to defend Memphis for Nathan Forest).

On Feb 23, 1864 do you know where the Seven Stars Artillery was stationed when it disbanded?

Also do you know what kind of uniforms they wore -- gray or butternut?
