Re: Gen. Forrest's Provost Guards

Mr. Pitts in his Soldier's Pension App. He states that he was with a Company of Provost Guards, no Letter nor Number that he knew of, His Captain's name was Gilbert. ( I was in Cavarly, under Gen.Forrest command when called but still retained with Provost Guards). At the time of his enlistment he was 16 or 17 years old.
All applications he signs C.M Vandiver, his Head stone reads
C.m. also. He may have been called Charley.
I wish I could fine more Info. But thanks to you I have a little more to add to this search.
