Co. B, 1st Miss. Battal. Sharpshooters

For information purposes only, the McLaughlin-Redd Papers in the manuscript collection of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville contains quite a bit of information on Company B of the 1st Mississippi Battalion Sharpshooters, evidently collected by William C. Holmes. Among the items included is his diary journal done while he was acting 1st Sergeant; a list of those who surrendered (27 names) at the end; a roll of the company ("Red Rangers") made by the Orderly Sergeant, including remarks added later recording date of death on a few members; a booklet of morning roll musters from an extended period that mentions Capt. S. Red, 1st Lt. William W. Stigler, and 2Lt. James M. Stigler as the officers in charge; and a clothing list for all the men in the company from the second quarter ending 30 June 1864.
