In Response To: 16th Ms. 15 yr reunion ()

yet so far.

The "Summit Conservative Times" (Pike County) was a weekly published at the time in question and carried spots about Magnolia and other county towns. The Times reported that a "Grand Pic-Nic" was to be held in Magnolia on Saturday, 27 May 1876, to lay the cornerstone of the new courthouse. A special excursion train would pick up passengers at Brookhaven, Summit, Osyka, and other locations that morning. There was, however, no mention of a veterans' reunion.

The Friday, 26 May edition reminded readers to head for Magnolia the next day. The next week's edition surely had an account, but the next issue of the paper in the Archives is for 8 September 1876.
