Union army garrison, Big Black

There was a Union army garrison/camp near Edwards/Big Black/Bridgeport after the fall of Vicksburg. Gen. Sherman stayed there with his family who came for the summer and it was supposed to be on the Big Black? Where was it and who was it's commander summer of '63?

Here Sherman told a general of his plans for the severe treatment of the south by destruction, etc. The conversation was overheard by two ladies from Raymond there on business and Sherman paid them no mind while talking to the other general..
