[Modern Compile's Note: Most of the companies in this section are documented companies. The names below are almost certainly simply forgotten/alternate/earlier names for them.]

1st MS Infantry (Simonton)

Pt. Mount Rifles, Captain C. C. Wilbourn.

11th MS Infantry (W.H. Moore)

Chickasaw Rifles, Captain J. B. Williams.

13th MS Infantry (Barksdale)

Lauderdale Guards, Captain Kenon McElroy.

16th MS Infantry (Carnot Posey)

Crystal Springs Rifles, Captain J. C. Davis.

23rd MS Infantry (Davidson)

Kossuth Hunters. Captain R. B. Allen.

32nd MS Infantry (Lowery)

Hatchie Rifles, Captain John N. Scally. This seems to be the same company as the Hatchie Rifles of the earlier Co. I, 2nd MS Infantry (Davidson's), Army of 10,000, as Scally is Capt. of one and 1st Lt. of the other. However, in the listing for the later 32nd MS, this company is called the "Hatchie Tigers."

39th MS Infantry

Simpson Guards, Captain R J Durr.

42nd MS Cavalry (sic) Obviously, this is the 2nd MS Cavalry (aka 42nd, 47th, and 4th)

Mrs. Body Guard, 1st Liuet. John Gaddis, com. (This is just a humorous mis-scanning of the "Mississippi Body Guards" of Scott County!)

LOCAL DEFENSE COMPANIES.
[Modern Compiler's Note: Only previously unknown companies' names have been CAPITALIZED. I am including the names of ALL the local defense companies listed in the House Journal so as to document the number of men in each of these companies, which number may have been previously unknown.]
