James Hays of Company I, 12th Mississippi, describes the death of Jack Glasgow in a letter dated 4 December 1863 from a camp on the Rapidan in Virginia. [We] "lost a splendid soldier, Jack Glasgow. He volunteered to go out as a scout and sharpshooter and exposed himself foolishly and was shot through the neck and died instantly. He was one of the best soldiers in the company. We all regret his loss very much." Source is the James Hays papers at the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond. Is there a Jack Glasgow in Company I or could this be the John D. Glasgow listed as a private in Company H in the Soldiers and Sailors database?
