Not all History is Found in Documents

Not all history was made on Main Street or convenient places. I discovered this recently when a tornado distroyed a family cemetery in Ms. Of course, since our ancestors were buried there; the "cusins" and I wanted to fix it. There were no grants or funds found for such a project and we set about to raise money among the descendants to restore the cemetery and place a Ms. Historical Marker there. The "cusins" all lived in Tx or Ark or Ky or Ala so restoration was not going to be an easy task. The Sons of Confederate Veterans,Camp 668 in Kosciusko came to our rescue. They restored the cemetery and did a remarkable job. What was formerly a pile of rubble in the woods is now as pristine as any National Park. The cemetery has a Ms. Historical Marker at the entrance. The SCV even came to the family celebration Nov. 2 in authentic Confederate dress and gave an awesome service. If you want to see visible history, The Conner Cemetery is in Attala Co. Go north on Hwy 35 toward Vaiden from Kosciusko about 6 miles to County Road 3041; turn right on 3041 and the cemetery is about a half block on the left. This cemetery contains the grave of one War of 1812 Veteran and several Confederate Veterans. Three gravestones have birth dates in the 1700's.Two Conner sons served in the Fifth Ms. Cavalry and later when it became the Eighteenth. One son,Uriah B. Conner is buried in this cemetery along with his grandfather, Burwell Traweek, War of 1812.
