Co I, 2nd Miss Cav Rgt

Per NARA records my GGgrandfather (Nathan A. Gann) served with Co I "Lula White Rebels", 2nd Miss Cav Rgt. He was on the Co muster 7 May 1862, enlisted for three years by Col Gordon. In Goodspeed's 1891 History of Western Arkansas his biograph shows him as being with 4th Miss Cav Rgt, severely wounded at Thompson's Station. It states he joined the 4th in 1862, and eighteen months later became a Lt in Pierce's Bn. I believe he was may have been living in Marion Co, Ala when he enlisted.

I think Co I was from Monroe Co, and he enlisted in the 2nd which later became the 4th, and may have then gone back to being the 2nd. Could somebody help me with the changes in this unit's designation during the War.
