My 12-year-old son and I went on a genealogy and Civil War trek through Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi. The entire trip was eerie, but the last stop in Vicksburg proved to be the most extraordinary. After dinner during the twilight hours, we drove by the Jefferson Davies home. On the opposite side of the street from the home is a large hill that looks like a park, with some trees and a flood light. As we drove by, I looked up and saw two gentlemen in civil war dress involved in a heated conversation. I said something to my son who also looked up to see them. I don't know if it was the light, but they appeared "washed out." We decided to get a better look at them, thinking this would be a fun "re-enactment" to see. It took only a second to get around to the front of the park, and the two men had vanished into thin air! If you have ever been there, you know there was no place for them to go so quickly! There was no way these two men could run down a hill in full civil war dress and vanish from our sight in a matter of 15 seconds! We drove around the area for about 20 minutes looking for them and never saw them again. We both are absolutely positive we saw ghosts! It is something we still talk about and was a fantastic end to our vacation!
