21st MS Inf, Co. G

Jim..Thank you for putting up this site...it is wonderful!
Many fine people, including yourself, have/are helping us out in securing information re our CSA ancestors. Here is our latest set of information. Perhaps your readers can shed more light!

George Turner Mitchell enlisted in the 21st MS Infantry, Co. G., CSA on 7/15/1861 at the age of 20 with two of his younger brothers, Benjamin F. and James J. ....James J. d. in the war of camp fever in his first year of service. George and Benjamin survived the war with minor leg wounds. George received his leg wound at Gettysburg 7/2/1863.

George T. Mitchell b. c1840 TN is buried at Good Hope Cem., Camden, Madison Co., MS with the appropriate CSA marker. We have his widow Henrietta Hemingway's pension papers. Henrietta b. 4/2/1836 SC d. 3/3/1917 MS buried along side her husband. Henrietta's first husband was a Mr. Gourley who was killed in the war. They had a child, Henrietta, b. 11/1/1862 d. 11/14/1862 & buried in Kirkwood Cem, Madison Co. MS. There was a John Gourley who served in the same regiment & company as George T. Mitchell...was he Henrietta's first love?
Still have been unable to dig up any birth vitals on George.

Benjamin Franklin Mitchell, George's brother, was b. 1842 TN and is buried at Coleman Cem., McAdams, Attala Co. MS with the appropriate CSA marker. We know no other vitals for Benjamin.

James J. Mitchell, George and Benjamin's younger brother, b. 1844 TN. The location of his death in the war and where he is buried is unknown.

The father of these lads is James H. Mitchell b. c1810 TN d. aft1870's [last seen in the Madison Co. 1870 census] m. to Susanna _______. b. c1817 TN d. 1868 MS and buried beside her son, George T. at Good Hope Cem, Camden, Madison Co. MS. Nothing else is known of James H. Mitchell.

There are two James H. Mitchell's in the CSA records:
One in the 18th MS Cav., Co. A and the other in the 26th MS Inf., Co. K.
We are currently seeking information re these James H's to determine if one of them is our ancestor.

Any assistance in any of these issues from Mr. Martin's readership would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you.
