Van Dorn's Camp at Knoxville, Tn.

Earl van Dorn never had a camp anywhere in East Tennessee. His cavalry division came to Tennessee from Mississippi by way of Florence in mid-February 1863. In the summer and fall of 1862 he was commander of the Army of the West in northeast Mississippi.

His command operated out of Columbia and other sites along the Duck River in middle Tennessee. Van Dorn was assasinated in early May 1863.
