I am also interested in the battle, one of my ggg grandfathers was in the 62nd Tennessee, which was one of the three regiments that stopped the Federal charge on December 29th.

The best map I have seen on the battle is in the first volume of Bearss’ Vicksburg series, "Vicksburg is the Key." The book also gives a detailed account of the battle. It was really only after reading the book that I had a good understanding of what transpired.

I am presuming you have an ancestor in a unit of the battle. The book also has good details of the activities in Northern Mississippi and in the Delta between the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers in the period October 1862 through April 1863. It helped me in researching four of my ancestors' units.
