On May 23rd, Hurlbut sent a telegram to Lincoln describing the toll the Vicksburg Campaign had taken on the Confederates up to that date. He failed to mention the burst gun at the Battle of Raymond or the guns captured at Snyder's Bluff, but he lists the loss of Confederate cannon thusly:
