In Response To: 42nd MS Inf Wagon Train ()

It is well-known that the remnants of Davis's decimated brigade anchored the rear-guard perimeter at Falling Waters on 14 July. The unit that has been the subject of my research for the last several years, the 2nd Mississippi, lost 20 casualties according to my research, most captured, but some killed and wounded during the attacks by Federal cavalry. The 2nd Mississippi (reduced almost certainly below 100 effectives -- probably closer to about 60-70) anchored the extreme right flank of the defensive perimeter. Thus the 20 casualties represented a 33% casualty rate inflicted on the remnant of the already bloodied regiment. At least some of the other units in Davis's brigade suffered as badly if not worse according to the few accounts I've seen (11th, 42nd Miss and 55th NC).
