James Harvey Hammett

James Harvey Hammett was born in Sumter (later Clarendon) District, S.C. 16 Aug 47, the son of William J. N. Hammett, who was a lawyer, magistrate, and later the editor of the Clarendon Banner, the local newspaper. His father (W.J.N.H.) was killed while serving in C/Hampton Legion at Seven Pines (Fair Oaks) 31 May 62. Harvey enlisted in his father's old company, now assigned as Mounted Infantry, on 20 Apr 64. He was last shown as present on the Nov-Dec 64 roll, the last one existant. He was a college student (location unknown) per the census of 1870 for Clarendon County; I understand that he became a physician and moved to Yazoo City, Miss, and that he died there on 19 Feb 06. Any information on his career in Mississippi, and his place of burial, would be appreciated.
