Georgia and Alan:

In light of the info that Georgia has about his living as late as 1880, it casts some doubt in my mind as to the veracity fo the statements made in the pension application. I have found indigent pension applications where substantial property was omitted (in one case for a Georgia pension, 180 acres back in South Carolina was "conveniently" omitted, but I will confess that I have not seen a death falsified. I need to pull the application back up, but based upon what I saw, it certainly appeared to be genuine, and it was verified by a fellow soldier, Calvin Gibson, who had served with Lipford both in the 4 S.C. CAV and in Co K of the Hampton Legion Mounted Infantry. Gibson was also originally form Chester District, the same as Lipford, although I recall that Gibson was, I think, from the Lewisville area, 20-25 miles east of the Baton Rogue community.
Any thoughts?
