The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

Pvt. Jacob H. Matthews

I have some, but really little, information on Jacob Matthews. He is an ancestor of mine, and brother to Samuel Matthews, about whom a message I posted recently.

Jacob Matthews enlisted on 10-15-62 At Springdale Ms. He was in Miss. 1st Johnstons Inf. Co. A and/or G. He was with Bealls Brigade and captured at Port Hudson, 7-9-63, and paroled a few days later. He was wounded at Franklin. I think he had been with Featherson's Brigade. By 10-30-64 he was in the Hospital at Lauderdale Springs, Ms. and there until at least 2-22-65. He is not on the list as being buried at Lauderdale Springs. Family oral history relates that he did not survive the war.

Thank you for your help and interest.
Charlie
