What you realize is that the days do not match together.
However, I would think what was meant by the oral history was that he was wounded at Shiloh and then apparently he died a month later of those wounds.
The family was fortunate to know that much to be honest. In this day of modern communications we tend to forget how hard it was to send a message to anyone during those times.
