I have tried to find a connection to the Rankin Co. Purvis Clan, but at this time I have not been able to do so.

My 2g-grandfather is John Gilbert Purvis, served in Co. D, 7th Miss. Infantry Regt. I am not sure but I think my key is going to be his middle name, Gilbert.

Are you familiar with the story of Will Purvis, the fellow who was hung twice? My mother and aunts called him uncle, but I have not been able to make the connection yet. If it is true, I believe he is a great uncle to them. Anyway I have the story if you need it, just drop me an email.

BTW did you know early in the war the 6th Miss. was known as the 7th.? I have ran across graves marked as such several times.
