I do have a Gilbert in my line. I'll show it to see if it will help. John @ Sarah (SC)- Gilbert @ Effica (SC)- John @ Mary (MS)- Clemens @ Eliza (MS)- George Walter @ Amanda (MS)- James Clemmons (Red) @ Viola- James Clemmons (Jack) my dad.
An interesting note to my Gilbert. He had brothers named Alexander, John, and William. These names appear on Francis Marion's brigade roster in SC in the revolutionary war. (Marion was the person the movie Patriot was loosely based on.)
I heard the story of Will as a child and was told he was relative but not sure how. I even have a copy of a newspaper article somewhere about the incident, his picture and a picture of the $5000 check paid to him as compensation by state of Ms.
Do you have any information on a C. Purvis who served in 10th MS with Port Gibson Rifles. I thenk this was Clemens but not sure. He would have been about 39yoa. I've been able to find very little info. Thanks
James
