Jamie has it right. The more exposure to the names the better. The more ways to access the names the better. The more often the project is mentioned by name the better.

When I started researching the 7th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers/Infantry, the only photo I had was my great great grandfather, Lt. Robert Cochran Bethea, M.D. Co. E 7th Miss. and that was post war. I then was led to Grady Howell's books and found one or two more; the late Mr. Billy Seale sent copies of photos of his grandfather and a friend and Chuck McMains sent a photo copy of his great grandfather as a result of postings on the original 7th Miss. web page that Col. Bob Patterson set up to honor his relatives and their messmates. That is the first time the roster was posted on line.ca 1998.

Since then we have received unsolicited and requested photos from almost every possible source. Never ever give up.
