Jerry:

I also had an ancestor that served in the 36th Miss. Tim Burgess mentioned a book about the regiment,"Remimniscence and Anecdotes of the War for Southern Independence" by George Powell Clarke, Sgt. Co. C-36th Miss Infantry, Harper
Reserves, Decatur, Mississippi. I have a copy of this book that I bought from George A. Smith, a great-grandson of Sgt. Clarke. Since the book has no index, I couldn't locate your ggrandfather's name, if Clarke might have mentioned him.

However, I will reread the book and look for James L. Chandler's name as well as any information about Co. H. and let you know. It's been a number of years since I talked to George Smith, and I'm not sure he's alive and still living in Decatur, MS, but I will give you his address and phone number should you want to attempt to contact him in case you want to buy a copy of his book, if he has any left.

I also have other books that may have information about Co. H in the 36th Miss. that I'll share with you.
