I do not find the 23 Mississippi Cavalry listed in the index to the 3 vol. Bearss
work.

It does not appear that there was a unit designation for what Wirt Adams commanded, everywhere it is referred to as "Wirt Adams Cavalry Regiment." both in Bearss and in Vol XXIV of the OR.
