All of which brings me to another point of contention. The stated reason for Gregg to be at Raymond is well known. To fall on the flank of Grant's army. But what did Pemberton propose for this single, although large brigade to accomplish. It would seem not feasible for one brigade to materially disrupt and roll up the whole right flank. Would it not have been better to unite Gregg with the main body. I believe time would have allowed it. Just think of the possibilities if Gregg had been available to extend the left flank on Champion Hill or added wait to Bowen's counterattack. Would not the maxim of uniting forces have been well served in this instance. John
