5th Mississippi Infantry - Murfreesboro

I would like to know who commanded the 5th Mississippi Infantry immediately after Lieutenant Colonel W. L. Sykes was severely wounded in the cedar brake in the early afternoon of 31 December 1862. Also, I would like to know Lieutenant Colonel Syke's first name.

This information is for a book that I am writing on the Army of Tennessee at Murfreesboro, so please cite sources.

No report was filed for the 5th Mississippi Infantry at Murfreesboro; consequently I have scarcely no information on the regiment's role in the battle other than the Official Records and other sources that have been frequently quoted.

Any information, however seemingly insignificant, on the 5th Mississippi Infantry would be most appreciated.

My Thanks and GOD's Blessings,

L.K. Smith
