The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

Austin A. Trescott, 21st Miss. Infy.

Hello to All,

I will be publishing a carte de visite photographic image of Austin Augustus Trescott, Co. A, 21st Mississippi Infantry Regiment in my next volume (No. 33) of the Confederate Calendar. A painting exists of Trescott posed with the battleflag of the regiment. The painting was based on the carte de visite I'll be publishig. The painting is the dustjacket illustration for the "Mississippi" volume in the PORTRAITS OF CONFLICT book series. A good deal of background texture has been added to the painting which does not exist in the original photograph. Can anyone tell me if that battleflag still exists and exactly what type it is? The person providing the photograph calls it a 4th issue ANV pattern flag. This photo was found in an album in a N.Y. estate sale early in 2007. The album also included a previously unknown CDV photo of General. R.E. Lee, taken in Lexington ca. 1867-68, and two CDV photos of General Benjamin G. Humphreys. I'll also be publishing the photo of General Lee. I have no idea where the Humphrey's images are now located as I believe photos were sold separately from the original album.

Any info on Trescott would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
