The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Austin A. Trescott, 21st Miss. Infy.

Jim,
The research is basically done for the book, I just have to find the time to do the writing. I have a two year old daughter, and she is taking up most of my free time right now, but I am hoping to get some of the writing done over the summer. This has been a very interesting project, as the 21st Mississippi saw more than their fair share of combat. After compiling a detailed roster of the regiment, and looking at the compiled service records of every man that served in the unit, I found the following:

Approximately 1473 men served in the 21st from 1861-1865. of that number:

197 were killed in action.

412 were wounded in action

171 died of disease or other causes.

10 were missing and presumed dead.

The men of the 21st Mississippi made a huge sacrifice for their country, and I hope my regimental history will do them justice.
