If I recall correctly what I've been told, all three guns with Bledsoe were pretty explicitly identified (by E.B.). If one begins to doubt the Whitworth identification, I can't see why the i.d.s of the other two can be any firmer. Why the detail that, of the three guns, it was the Whitworth that burst? Are these leaps of faith?
Why do myth & legend surround Bledsoe and his guns? Cyrus Sugg (an eye-witness!) claimed that as a result of Chickamauga Bledsoe's battery was rearmed with captured Wiard rifles. Patently untrue (as are a couple of fine details of this yarn). John
