I would like to find out more about the service of John Calhoun Packer.info handed down in the family is that he joined the 42nd partisan rangers at Oxford in 1861,captured at Champion hill 1863,sent to prison at Alton,Ill. My other great grandfather,Johnnie Pickett joined a artillery unit at Grenada also in 1861,captured at Champion hill in 1863 paroled.Im not sure this info is correct any help will be appreciated.thanks in advance.jim j
