Matthew, where in the San Fernando Valley do you live?
Some of my fondest childhood memories came from the summers of 1944, '45 and '46 when I spent about three weeks each summer staying with my grandparents on their little farm located at 11710 Gladstone Ave. just north of and parallel to Foothills Ave.
In those days, all the roads were dirt, lined with olive trees in those days. Now all those same roads are asphalt, packed with homes and it's impossible to figure out old addresses as a result, I am told - of the Sylmar Earthquake in the '70s
Are you anywhere near there, Matthew?
By the way, the Mississippi connection here, tenuous as it is, is that my grandfather's dad lived out his early years in CW Mississippi before he migrated to Texas.
