I know the Improve community has a very large family of Morris's I believe a lot of them don't even know they are actually related. If by chance you have not read the article About the Fued i mentioned. You can type The Morris, Cox and Pace Fued of Marion County, in google and there are several links to the story. It mentions The Morris family progenitors, Edmund and his wife Sarah [Thompson] Morris, left Barnewell District, South Carolina around 1809, It also describes several of the family Offspring and details how the Morris and Pace families connected. I am not sure of the time frame that would cover your GG Grandfather. Both families were settled in Marion county by 1820, And time of the war 1862 the famlies where large, It also shows William Talran Morris Joining the Columbia Guard March 25th 1862, If you have any more information on maybe the area or general year of birth, I still have family in the area that can carry the name pretty far back. (It is a interesting read at any rate)
Hope this may give you a lead,
David
