Hello,
I have been told sometime ago, that a person that was a mechanic before the Civil War may have served/worked on ships, submarines, and anything mechancial for the Confederacy. With that said, I have an ancestor, James C. Isbell that was a mechanic, I believe in 1860 in Rankin County, MS. He was born about 1802 in NC. With this information, where should I do my research to see if he possibly did give service in this capacity?
Any help would be much appreciated.
