Wondering if anyone can help me with this: I am searching for info on all Wiggintons (all spellings) who were in the war. I have run into a man who used an alias to enlist. His pension papers show both his Wigginton name (which I interpret to be his "real" name) and his alias.
What would've been the more common reasons for someone to use an alias? I have my suspicions that this man was in a confederate unit first as his union enlistment with the alias was not until 1864. What other possibilities have you encountered?
Any insight is appreciated! This man was in a KY unit and I have posted this on that board but I have had no response there and have received great help from here on other topics. Thanks!
