Brownsville had a girls' finishing school, school for boys, Masonic Lodgte, post office, couple of hotels, five stores, a cotton gin, and four churches. Dr. Turner, M.D., Drug store and pharmacist by Mr. Cocke. U.S. and CSA Cav had a fight NE of town on Rt 22 across from Ed Carpenter's house by creek in 1863.
