Sharon, I found a very good history of the 24th MS which was in Duncan Rowland's "Military History of Mississippi,1803-1898". which gives the list of companies & the counties where they were raised. Next is the history of the regiment & their battles, movements, etc. from 1861 until their surrender ,April 26, 1865,in N.C.

If you are interested in company rosters , go to
Civil War Rosters- Mississippi Links.Scroll down to no. 136.This brings up the Kemper County,MS GenWeb site. This lists all of the company rosters for infantry ,cavalry, & artillery. Just click the unit your ancestor was in.

I still haven't figured out how I got to the site about the 24th's history- at least I have it on my favorites list.

Amazon.com has several good books about the Battle of Perryville,Ky, & Chickamauga.

If you cannot find Rowland's book, I will more than happy to mail a copy of the relevant material. I THINK the book is out of print. Would have like to have a copy myself , as my g-grandfater was in Company A. , was captured at Lookout Mtn.in Nov, 1863, & imprisoned at Rock Island Prison until his release May of 1865- he never surrendered!

Have a Happy and safe Holiday season!

Mary Jo
