Great news I found some new info out today. On December 29, 2007 I sent a request to Alton Ill. to obtain info on the Lovins. I was contacted by a gentleman named Don who runs there Civil War research dept. Since Alton had a pow camp there. He contacted me back today.
His reply was that William W. Lovins,private,1st Mississippi was captured at Hernando,Mississippi. Arrived at Alton on April 30, 1863 and sent for exchange at City Point,Virginia on June 12, 1863.
I then contacted him and gave him Drury M. Lovins and Jackson V.Lovins names. He later e-mailed back and said he had information for all three brought to Alton. He gave me his number and told me to call him to discuss. The kicker of it all is I only live 5 miles from Alton on the Missouri side. I will be ordering the Compiled Service records for all three. Does anyone know of the battle in Hernando?
thanks for all your help and I will let you know tomorow.
