Cyrus H. Johnson, Co. C 9th Miss.

Need help identifying this man.
Cyrus H. Johnston of Co. C 9th Miss. Infantry. Johnston was mentioned in the Ezra Church report of Lt. Col. Benjamin F. Johns, 7th Mississippi Infantry, commanding 9th Mississippi Infantry, Jacob Sharp’s Brigade, Stephen D. Lee’s Corps.

“Report of Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin F. Johns, Seventh Mississippi Infantry, commanding Ninth Mississippi Infantry, of operations July 28. HEADQUARTERS NINTH MISSISSIPPI REGIMENT, In the Field, July 30, 1864.”

“…Private Cyrus H. Johnston, Company C, well known in the commissary department, voluntarily shouldered his rifle and went into the fight. While bravely discharging his duty a ball struck the point of his shoulder and entered the body, causing death in a few minutes…”

I have checked the Soldiers and Sailors System for Cyrus H. Johnston, Co. C 9th Miss. The system lists no one named Johnston in the 9th Miss. The only listing is for Cyrus A. Johnson listed as Co. B and Co. C. It is possible that the “H” versus “A” could be a transcription error in the report. Since he worked in the commissary department, it is possible that he was a servant turned soldier. Identifying this man would add to the history of the “High Pressure Brigade” and ensure that he receives the honors he deserves.
