Captain J. W. Youngblood was said to have been from Tennessee. He was chief signal officer to Major General Franklin Gardner at Port Hudson and commanded a small company. He and five men were captured by Union troops on the west bank of the Mississippi River on March 17, 1863. His and his company's compiled military service records should be filed under Confederate units rather than units from a particular state.
