Battle of Iuka

Does anybody have, in a knut shell, the reasons why General Sterling Price lost at Iuka? Was it the terrain, was it his skills, was it poor communications, or was his men simply out matched by a smaller force? I noticed that the 11th Missouri (US) caught the 37th Miss. in the woods and fired into them, and the 37th Miss. did not return fire thinking them their own troops, which cost the Mississippians dearly for at least two vollys; plus the repeated bloody attempts to take a Union battery cost even more Confederate lives. I don't understand how Price lost with everything seemingly on his side, i.e., size, knowledge of the area, supplies.
